Things to do in Tamarindo, Costa Rica

Tamarindo, Costa Rica is a great place to explore the outdoors and enjoy an adventurous vacation. Mango Condos is happy to help set up any activities you are interested in. A few of our favorites are as follows:

The sport that put Tamarindo, Costa Rica on the map! Tamarindo hosts multiple surf breaks right in town, minutes from Mango Condos. Board rentals are easy to find and we can set you up with lessons if you are new to the sport. For more advanced surfers, boat trips to Witch’s Rock and Ollie’s Point are almost always available, so be sure to check conditions before booking.

Zip Line Tours:

Zip line or Canopy tours are the ultimate Costa Rica adventure activity. Flying through the air at high speeds gives you an adrenaline rush and some of the best views in the area. There are multiple zip line tours in the area so let us know if you’re interested and we’ll find the right one for you!

Horseback Riding:

Whether on the beach or in the hills, horseback riding is a fun way to explore the Tamarindo area. All riding abilities are welcome and there are a wide variety of tour options.

Catamaran Tour:

We’ve covered Tamarindo by air and horse, sunset boat tours are the way to go by water! Tours depart in the afternoon, sail to a nearby bay for snorkeling, snacks and general shenanigans and return to Tamarindo just in time for sunset. Tours are open bar and include a tasty lunch served while the boat is at anchor.

Rincón de la Vieja:

The closest volcano to Tamarindo, Rincón de la Vieja, provides a wealth of activities. You can go to the national park, hike to a beautiful waterfall and see tons of wildlife. Unfortunately, the crater is closed. Another option for Rincón de la Vieja is taking a trip to one of the adventure parks in the area. Daylong tours include transportation from Tamarindo, zip-lining, horseback riding, mud baths, hot springs and, at some, canyoning, rappelling and tubing.

Sport Fishing:

Tamarindo Bay is home to a plethora of fish including Tuna, Dorado (also known as Mahi-Mahi or Dolphin Fish), Mackerel, Snapper, Rooster, Marlin and Sailfish. Half day boat tours tent to fish closer to shore for Tuna Dorado and Snapper while full day tours go offshore in hopes of catching larger Tuna and billfish. If you are planning on fishing while you are visiting Mango Condos in Tamarindo, be sure to bring extra sun protection.

Playa Avellana:

Located to the south of Tamarindo, Playa Avellana is about 40 minute drive that is well worth it. This massive beach is great for surfing, long walks and beach days. While there, check out Lola’s, one of best restaurants in the area, and their pet pig, Lolita. If you do not have a car, please let Mango Condos know if you are interested in taking a trip to Playa Avellana and we will set up a shuttle for you.
